Job description

In their mission to rid the world’s oceans of plastic, the ocean cleanup relies on a thorough understanding of the ocean plastic pollution problem.

The research team at The Ocean Cleanup aims to refine our understanding of the sources, transport, and fate of ocean plastics.
They have developed a camera-based mapping tool for mapping marine
plastics. This software ingests camera images, collected during expeditions,
and returns object detections. Recently, the volume of incoming expedition
data has been increasing strongly, such that assistance with the processing
and validation is required. After an initial training, the workflow steps will be
easy to follow. However, there is also opportunity for creative improvements.

The technical assistant will be executing the data processing, data
management and validation of results. This includes managing a computer
which uploads high volumes (TBs) of data to our cloud environment and
optimizing processing tasks between our cloud and office-based resources.
Finally, a keen eye is required for securely archiving and documenting each

Personal Qualifications required:

  • Eye for detail,
  • Patience with computers,
  • Not afraid of solving practical challenges and taking initiative in this,
  • Curious, creative, and determined to deliver,
